Team Building Icebreakers

The first challenge you will encounter on any teambuilding exercise is personal introductions. Members of the teambuilding course need to become acquainted with each other and the course leader. These initial exercises are commonly called ‘icebreakers’ as they break down any barriers between team members.

The most popular icebreaker is for the team leader to arrange the team members in a circle and ask them one by one to stand up and tell the group a little about themselves. Each member of the team will stand in turn and give their name and some brief details about their work and/or hobbies by way of an introduction. If the members of the teambuilding course work for the same large company, often it is a good idea to ask them to describe the department they work in and their job role. In this way it allows other members of the team to position them in their mind. Sometimes the team members may already have relationships that they are not aware of - possibly they have spoken on the telephone, or have emailed each other in the past as part of their job function.

Another great icebreaking activity is to assign each member of the team a partner whom they have never met before. The pairs are given a short time (10 minutes is suggested) to get to know a little bit about each other. The icebreaking task is then for each team member to describe their partner to the group.

At icebreaking sessions it is also a good idea for the team leader to encourage laughter. Laughter and humor are great icebreakers. Possibly each member could be given a sheet of jokes and asked to stand and tell their favorite joke to the group, and then give the reasons why they chose that joke. As well as breaking the ice this is a clever way of learning a little about a person - the reasons they give for choosing the joke will give a little insight to their personality.

Remember when leading a teambuilding session the importance of icebreaking. This is the most important part of the course and sets the foundation for the work you will do over the coming hours or days. Setting your icebreaking session around breakfast or coffee can help as these are natural times of social interaction - watch as team members help each other with the simple task of making and pouring coffee.

Introduction to Podcasting

People have a natural inclination to what is trendy. In fact, it is this “cool” factor that fuels most industries. Sales are determined by how fashionable the products are perceived. Determining market trends can also be predicted by knowing what is “cool.”

Take for example Apple’s highly successful portable mp3 player, the iPod. The iPod has been hailed as a cultural revolution, as it changed the way society has come to enjoy their music. A great part of the iPod’s success is because of the “cool” factor associated with it. Apple has positioned their wonder toy to be at the top of the industry it has created for many years to come.

As an Internet marketer, you could capitalize on this popularity enjoyed by the iPod as well as similar gadgets that have been made available to the market the past year. This is through a channel that has been fondly labeled as podcasting.

Podcasting, quite appropriately, traces the roots of its name to iPod owners as well as owners of similar devices. Podcasting is much like broadcasting, making use of new technology on Internet content delivery. RSS 2.0 is the medium of choice for podcasting. But instead of syndicated text, RSS 2.0 would deliver codes that, when decoded, are translated to audio that could convey any message, whether for entertainment, for business, or for personal purposes.

Podcasting has brought about a renaissance in radio broadcasts. Portable mp3 players have dislodged transportable FM receivers, after all. Many Internet radio stations have sprouted left and right because of the many wondrous possibilities that podcasting has brought to the plate.

If you wish to try podcasting, make your content your number one investment. No one wants to listen to junk, after all.

You could convert any of the known Internet marketing strategies into tactics that would make your podcast the ultimate promotional vehicle. You could include your links, recommend your products, and even invite your listeners so that you may capture them as leads. You could even podcast some interviews you have conducted with some experts on the field you’re catering to.

You could decide to use podcasting as an advertising vehicle or as an information product in itself. You could prepare some audio lessons and deliver them through your podcasts, for a reasonable fee that your subscribers could afford.

The best thing about podcasting is that it is a relatively new technology. Not a lot of web entrepreneurs are into it as of present. You could have little competition in this area, and you’ll be able to brand your business as an amazing cutting edge enterprise for using such a technology.

Make Your Ad Copy More Effective

Telling a story or sharing product and service information is fine in an ad. But the bottom line is that you want to close a sale. The difference in ad copy doesn’t have to be earth shattering. It can be very slight, in fact. Here are ways to make your ad a little more effective come closing time.

1. TESTS – Make public knowledge the results of your product and service testing. Share how your items stand up against the competition; how durable they are, how safe. Discuss the quality and unique features. Let people know “why” they should choose your items. And present the material in a professional way with statistics, graphs, before and after photos or other graphic images and a well-written report or case study documented.

2. YOU – While you’re at it, let them know why they should choose you! Don’t hide behind a P.O. Box and Yahoo email address. Add your background information, a nice executive resume, testimonials from clients, work samples, community involvement projects, industry awards, educational courses you continue to take for self improvement, workshops and seminars you attend, etc. let people know who you are. Add a nice, professional photograph of yourself, too, if you like.

3. CHARITY – Tie in a percentage of your sales with one of your favorite charities. And make mention of this in your ad copy. This is a win-win strategy because your company gives back to society plus your clients read about it; it improves your image in their eyes and shares your concerns. And they give, too. Everyone helps each other.

4. GUARANTEE – Include a good, solid guarantee in your offer. For examples, look at the last thing you purchased and check out the guarantee. In a nutshell, make it a lifetime offer and / or give them back MORE than they gave you.

5. PS – Since most people look for this feature, add it! Say something in your P.S. – like give them a Bonus offer if they reply by a certain deadline. Or focus on your best reason why the reader should buy – and NOW.

6. CONTACT – Do include complete contact information – that works! Test any email addresses and telephone numbers before going to press

So next time you need to ace your ad copy, go back over what you wrote and tweak it here and there for improvements. Better yet, have a contest and invite your readers to do it for you! How’s that for a win-win solution?!
